Great Receiver August 29, 2010 Barbara A. Suma We bought this to replace an Onkyo. The difference was incredible.
My husband and I have eyesight problems and the added feature of on-screen guide
is oh so very appreciated. The quality I am getting from our speakers is noticeable.
I cannot say enough to describe how impressed we are.
Another excellent Sony product August 25, 2010 PegLegBiker (Winchester, VA) I had the previous verson of this unit but it was damaged in an electrical storm. I didn't have much hope of finding another good receiver at such an acceptable price. So I was tentative when I purchased the Sony STR-DN1000. It is even better than the previous model and was a bit easier to set up. It's a great value for the price and I highly recommend it's purchase.
Great product, no complaints!!! August 6, 2010 Devil Dog I bought this receiver May 2010. I had shopped around for a reasonably priced unit that was 7.1 and that could handle a single HDMI from the unit to my TV. I have 7 RC80i speakers mounted in my ceiling and one Polk 10" sub. The sound is amazing with this unit. I have seen two friends of mine who paid approx. $3,500 on expensive systems with Klipsch speakers and more expensive receivers than mine. There setups sound great but I think mine sounds just as good if not better. They even paid for a local company to install all their equipment. I had never installed home theater before and I did it and looks great. I also bought a 75' HDMI cable for around $90.00, which is great. A friend of mine paid around $400.00 for a HDMI around the same length. What a waste of money. I paid around $1,200 for my 8 speakers (I bought 8 because Polk sold them in pairs), 1 10" Polk sub, receiver, 100 ft. of UL speaker wire, and a pin connector kit. I strongly suggest buying pin connectors for plugging into the back of the unit. I bought everything off amazon.
Anyhow, about the receiver. The unit never gets hot. I heard some people complain about units getting hot in some of the ones I shopped. You have nothing to worry about in that department. I run a PS3 and Direct TV cable box into the unit by HDMI; and then one single HDMI to my TV. My TV is a 55" LED LG, mounted above my fireplace. The receiver has no delays in audio, for example some people say that other brands will make it appear as the audio is delayed from the picture. This unit is not one of those. The color and sounds are perfect. Im telling you, if you are considering this unit go ahead and buy it. You will not be disappointed.
No S-video outputs July 22, 2010 BigGuyKy I wasn't very happy finding no S-video outputs, and really not enough RCA outputs ether. The design of the remote could use some major rethinking. Every thing else seemed to be quite adequate.
